Aldan started his online computer classes. He's going to learn to make Flash-animated games (which he is thrilled about) and how to do some basic computer programming as well. He worked so hard the first day he's already completed the assignments for the next 3 days. Interesting how a passion for something makes learning flow so much easier. He's taking classes from www.giantcampus.com. It's *free* to us in Washington. Even as homeschoolers. His teacher is in Wisconsin. As for extra-curricular, Aldan has spent the last 2 Saturdays with our church group feeding lunch to homeless folks in a bigger city north of here. He says he likes it because it really feels great to help people. He can see they appreciate it and he very much enjoys being a part of that.
Keaton and Cole are working on a combination of My Father's World Kindergarten and some other filler workbooks. Keaton has a first grade workbook, but he does the Kindergarten stuff too. And we started out the morning listening to Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. I just told them it was Mozart. And I made a sign that said, "Mozart." Keaton claimed he did not like Mozart. He complained and complained about Mozart. And then, he made another sign that said, "No Mozart." Either way, I win. He will remember it's Mozart, which was the whole idea.
Cole loves school. He will sit and do pages and pages of work. Today he colored and traced his letters. We also did some P.E. He and Mom raced around the couch in the living room and the dining room table in a figure 8. The dog joined us too. It was funny to see Lucy trailing me. I don't know what possessed her to race with us. Generally, she is content to lay on the couch. Weird.
I started this week with a chore chart for Keaton and Cole. 5 chores. 7 days. Since we started doing Financial Peace with Dave Ramsey, I'm inspired to help them learn responsibility and reward. At the end of the week, they get a few dollars for filling in all the spots on the chart. So far, they don't even understand the reward part. Just putting stickers on the chart is incentive enough. Gotta love that. Aldan does not have a chore chart, per se; he does, however, get paid commissions for mowing the lawn and other various chores around the house. He's voluntarily giving a portion of his earnings to the church, all on his own accord.
Right now it's late, but outside I keep hearing this eagle screeching. After all the Labor Day campers (to the East and to the West) are gone, now it's the eagle's turn to make lots of noise. The weather has been superb and we are loving the Northwest right now.
